Even those who don’t know poker have no doubt seen Daniel Negreanu while flipping through the channels or even on the PokerStars commercial where he’s folding his cards in the black and white setting. It’s pretty much obvious from the numerous poker TV shows and commercial spots he’s done that Negreanu is one of poker’s biggest and brightest stars. However, even with his star power, the last place I would’ve expected to see Negreanu is in the new movie “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
But expect it or not, Daniel Negreanu does appear in Wolverine during a scene in which Negreanu, Wolverine, and Gambit are all playing a game of cards. Negreanu is shown twice during the scene, but he unfortunately doesn’t have any dialogue. Since I haven’t actually seen the movie I don’t know if the scene will stay after Wolverine is edited down, but I’m assuming that they didn’t bring Daniel in for nothing, so it probably will stay.
I guess the fact that Negreanu is in the movie makes sense because the X-Men character Gambit is a major card player and playing poker would naturally fit his persona. But don’t ask me why Wolverine is in the card game since the steel-clawed brute isn’t exactly the card playing type. However, I look forward to checking out the movie some day and hope that they kept this scene in there.
For Negreanu, this is actually his second movie appearance since he also made a cameo in “Lucky You” where he was joined by Doyle Brunson, Sam Farha, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein, and Ted Forrest. Considering he may have made a scene in the potential blockbuster movie Wolverine, look for Negreanu to appear in other films in the future.
